Hey y'all, I was private messaged to submit a post in this sub too after posting in Bitcoin earlier today. I didn't even know this Reddit existed, so sorry about that. I'm kind of new to Reddit. I also had problems posting there earlier today and messaged the mods as my post disappeared after submitting it. I don't even know what happened to it to be honest since it was my first post, they never replied back to me. Anyhow I built a new tool that gives you the price of Bitcoin and allows you to calculate it back and forth from USD and BTC. Mycelium devs; Please remove MtGox from your "Bitcoin Price" calculations
At least allow the user to select from a list which exchange(s) to use in the calculations. Right now my balance says the average is $390. I can't use the "send USD" functionality right now because it's not trustworthy.
I know it's based on supply and demand in each individual exchange site, but I'm interested in the details. I want to know what formula they use and how often prices get updated. Every minute? Every second? Every millisecond? A related question: how does instant buy work, for example in Coinbase? How can they guarantee that there will be X bitcoins for sale at that particular point? I recall trading in MtGox you had to wait for someone to want to buy your coins. Thanks in advance.
